Description
Basil is a widely known cooking herb often included in tomato based Italian dishes like spagetti because of its flavor and aromatic scent. Basil comes from the Lamiaceae mint family, with multiple varieties that can be grown as annuals or perennial in warmer climates.
Around the world, Basil has not only been used as a popular ingredient in cooking but also in healing as well. The US Dept of Agriculture shows basil being recommended in many ailments such as alcoholism, colds, constipation, depression, boredom, etc. In other cultures, it is commonly believed and used to promote menstruation, induce labor, expel intestinal worms, help with ringworm, bacteria and other types of illnesses and infections.
Basil Tea Recipe
Steep together 10-20 minutes:
3 tsp dried basil leaves
1 cup boiling water
Basil is available by the pound, 1/2 lb and 1/4 lb package.
